Distance learning has gained a lot of traction in last few years. Especially with the advancement in the internet and networking technologies, online education now gets facilitated even better. But distance learning is not devoid of challenges. While looking for the online courses, you will get to hear a lot of good things about them. However, there are a few things that nobody told you about distance learning. Here are some of them.
You need to be self-motivated
In the physical learning, one of the biggest advantages is that even when you are not motivated from the inside, you get the push from the outside. You have friends, peers, and particularly the teachers to push you to do the things. But this is certainly not the case with distance learning. If you are someone who needs the extra nudge or push to complete the things, you might find yourself struggling. You will need a great deal of self-motivation and self-discipline to get many things done.
Less interaction with instructor/teacher
Distance learning is completely conducted using the online platform. Therefore, it means that you will hardly have any opportunity to interact with the teacher or instructor on a one-to-one basis. Although there are certain institutions that try to bridge the gap, but it is nothing like the physical learning wherein you can even intercept the teacher walking down the pathway towards the class.
There is no doubt about the fact that online courses have become very popular and many companies have even started accepting them. But there is still some more way to go. There are still some companies who prefer people from regular education over distance education. The good news is that you will find some companies that will judge you based a lot on your skills and not your degree.
The kind of support that you expect to get in the regular learning is not available with distance learning. There are no colleagues, peers, friends or teachers around.
